I'm not disappointed with this beer, it's fairly solid, but I'm not feeling any magic. It's medium-full in body and creamy-smooth across the palate. Or maybe it's just my brain playing tricks on me, I don't know. I don't know why it is but I'm continually reminded of their Flower Power - that's the name of it, right? That's a little darker and stronger though, and I think it's just the floral character of the hops that's reminding me of it. The head has dropped but I still have a short but solid surface of creamy white foam, and there's some lace around the glass that looks like a massive wave of foamy sea water about to crash down. It finishes dry and bitter with just some peach, grass, and earthiness lingering. On that note, double IPAs can sometimes be a little on the sweeter side but this has a good balance. I'm getting some "hop bite" in the finish, and the alcohol probably helps with that, but it's not out of line, particularly for a double IPA. It's got 7.75% alcohol by volume and I can sense it although it doesn't stand out. I'm guessing that it's 2-row base malt, wheat, oats, and maybe a little bit of honey malt. Named after everyones favourite cousin from National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, The Cousin Eddie is a custard ice cream gently spiced with freshly. It's got a very firm bitterness to it, and the malt is pretty basic, sweetish, grainy, bready, and lightly honeyish. Oddly, that was the last note I was finding in the aroma, but whatever. It's got a nice note of orange at its center. This is not bad, it's just a little muddled. I'm going to have to pour another beer just so I can be sure that I haven't suddenly lost my taste - I poured another hazy double IPA and no, it's definitely not me, that one is brighter and clearer. more of the same with some added peach and floral and "dank" hop character. It's not that bright for a hazy double IPA, although for some reason double IPAs generally aren't that bright in the nose. Think papaya, mango, melon, guava, orange. The aroma is resinous and grassy with a light bit of citrusy and otherwise tropical fruit.
